cx5 suv soft roader advert rant
Discussion
For the second time in a week, a car advert has infuriated me.
"Introducing the sports car with all the advantages of a family SUV. The all-new Mazda CX-5. Uncompromise".
Right, lets go through this. This is NOT a sports car, and what advantages are those exactly? High seats making it harder to get the family in? Ditto the boot access height. SUV means 'Sports Utility Vehicle'. It's not sporty, it's not utilitarian, so that means it's just a "V".
As for 'uncompromise', the entire 'cross-over' category is a f
king compromise. They give the muppets who buy these things a large, heavy, difficult to park barge which doesn't even have the off-road pretensions of a 'soft roader' and can't do anything more than a normal car. In fact, they're just a more expensive, less practical, less sensible alternative to a normal car. In my opinion the advert also had two grammatical errors, consisting of one omission and one mis-use of the hyphen.
The other advert, if anyone's interested, was on TV for the new BMW 6 Series 'Gran Sport'. "Beauty. Seldom seen." it proclaims in another mangling of basic English and truth in the face of overwhelming evidence. I declare it to look like a morbidly obese 7 Series with a marketing strategy of optimism seldom seen. It looks f
king hideous on TV, which does not bode well for the real thing. Who buys into this s
te? Literally and figuratively, who sees these and thinks "Ooh, that looks good, I wouldn't mind spending half my income on that."?
