I should know better, being 63, and old enough for a bit of sense, but stuff it, wanted a V8 barge to saunter up and down to our place in France, so I've bought myself a Mk4 LS 400, not everyone's cup of tea, wife says it's ugly....but still a great place to be for those empty autoroutes.

Now I can swap my GS300 and get an S2000 too, but don't tell SWMBO!

Well done, Sir - good barge!

But if I may be so bold as to say your 'silly car' is not silly enough - the S2000 is a great daily driver and a bit too sensible!

Either fold yourself into a Caterham, or double-up your V8 dream with a nice TVR!

Happy days!

Matt, I've had 3 Caterhams, ( and 911s, and MX5s and an E30 M3 and.....)The last one had a 262 bhp XE, and the noise from the Swindon roller barrels was intoxicating..love to go back there, my ideal stable would be the LS 400 with a Minnow trailer complete with Caterham, but then I do have to be sensible don't I?....I am a pensioner after all

Ah, fair enough - didn't realise you'd already been there thumbup

As for being sensible, well, I'm not at pension age yet so seem to spend my whole life being sensible, planning for the future, secure retirement etc, so maybe ready for a bit of silliness later on in life!

I've noticed my dad (who is retired) making some very silly purchases!
I joke; "Oi! Stop spending the inheritance!"
He retorts "You're all doing fine, I did my job by bringing you up to stand on your own two feet - I'm now enjoying the fruits of my labour!" <goes back to his boat/holiday brouchure>

World class barging sir, I doff my cap to you.

Sensible purchases like this should be made into a GCSE subject instead of such idiotic things as "maths" and "english".

Surely this IS a sensible choice - a crazy selection would've been a Skoda Rapid convertible! smile

I don't think you should be sensible because you are a pensioner.

I've always applauded my grandad for buying a golf GTI at the age of 88, he's ninety and I'm convinced its the only thing stopping him from degenerating into death!

Didn't think they made a MK4 LS400. What model year is it?.

Tell that to my old man, since he retired three years ago he has acquired an XJR, XJS 6L, Bentley Turbo R and a Sunbeam Alpine. He is currently looking at MGB restoration projects or a Porsche Boxster. Onwards and upwards.

Mk4 is 97-00. VVTi engine (290bhp), Nav, 5-speed auto and a restyled front end are the differences over the Mk3.

Thanks, didn't realize that was called a MK4. I was going by body styles and thought that as that was the third restyle, it was called the MK3.

I always thought mine was a MK1 (original shape), but I guess it was really a MK2.

Lovely cars, still miss mine sometimes.
