To set the scene , the last one litre Ford I drove had somewhere in the region of 45 horsepower , and I handbrake turned it into a kerb .
Moving on by about 25 years and my neighbour who works for Ford, arrived home in a new Focus 1 litre , so , in the interests of nostalgia , I took it for a spin . although my own car(s) are old Mercedes , I drive new cars through work on a daily basis , and all leave me cold and disinterested . The focus is however a genuinely super little machine , belying it's tiny engine with real verve and enthusiasm. It sounds great too , with a growl under acceleration and real design integrity . Certainly my most surprising car of the year so far although inferior to my old fiesta popular in the handbrake department ...

Neighbour has just got one. Quite a lot of engine under the bonnet. We had a 1L Suzuki Swift 3 pot & that engine was tiny. Neighbour seems quite happy but did have a long wait for it around 14 weeks.

You sound like an advert and taken your words from the clichéd car journalist dictionary.

How can you come to a conclusion after 15 minutes..?
