Mods feel free to move this, on mobile in crap reception so struggling!

On holiday, in-laws car, a 2001 Vauxhall Astra 1.6 16v, was being reversed into a parking space up a steep hill when suddenly the lower portion of the 'information display panel' (centre consol LCD thing) started displaying the word 'SAFE' and now won't go away.

Can't find anything about it in the manual, I'm assuming it's a limp mode? Can anyone confirm?

Many thanks

I think it's a radio security thing. Does the radio still work?

Deva link, you're a star! That's a relief - now just got to work out why the radio has randomly gone into safe mode!!!

Thank you, will try that now!

No flat battery or anything, just completely random. Ironically he was moving the car to allow the AA to get to a LR Disco when it happened!
