..to cut off the corner when turning right?

This & the other habit of making a slight move to the right before turning left.

Recently, every time I have coincided with another vehicle making a right turn as I approach a T junction, it has cut off the corner.

This mornings example was a Ka, which upon attempting the aforementioned manoeuvre, was met with a vehicle proceeding in the opposite direction.

The Ka was travelling at such speed, after taking evasive action, it then proceeded to drive along the wrong side of the road to make the turn at the crossroads.

How hard can it be?

I think so. It's also standard now to drive straight through a round-a-bout with no regard for drivers in the lane next to you.

Multiple lane discipline.

Tell me about it. Here in Warminster you can pretty much guarantee that someone will do this. It involves assessing the car and the driver and sitting slightly back from the junction...

It does seem that way - along with the filthy look you get if you actually happen to be approaching said junction, meaning that they have to drive around you and use the road as it was intended

Sounds about right. It's a horrible habit that's spreading. See too many people turning into junctions on the wrong side of the road all the time - what's everybody's rush?

I like forcing people to use their steering wheel in this situation.
I'n not fussed if the hit my rental cars when they cut the corner.

Yes, the best bit about it is the look on their dumb faces when they realise you are approaching the junction and then watch as they shuffle the steering wheel to get out of your way with a look of sheer bewilderment that you dare get in their way.

Mouth breathing mongs.

Yeah, it's worth what, a fraction of a second. They could make far more than that doing the speed limit, since they are always the 40/50 mph cruisers...

I live on the corner at a T-junction, probably 60% of vehicles cut the corner when turning right. They carry too much speed into the corner to make a right angled turn - sloppy driving, that's all. Same applies when turning left, they don't slow down enough so do a 'swan neck turn' instead.

Yep, very common. Every time I try to pull out of my estate I'm met with someone trying to remove the front of my car. tts.

There's a mini-roundabout near me, where on several occasions, I've been going striaght over and cars coming towards me, wanting to turn right, have cut the roundabout so much, they've actually cut short of the round about.

On one occasion, I know it was somsone trying to be smart, and actially wondered what would have happend if they'd clipped my car. It would have happend after I'd passed the roundabout, but not sure how you would prove it.

Its simply laziness. The corner cutting seems to have risen too, in my eyes. I've seen a few shockers.

I have a staggered T Junction type set up coming out of my estate, so its a left then immediate right to cross the main road. The school run gang coming the other way straightline it to the extent they can clip their front drivers side tyre on the kerb! If im coming the other way (bike or car) Im glared at for ruining their line.

It's everywhere, can't escape it.

It's because lots of people don't really believe in oncoming traffic. Some times it's there, some times it isn't, so they ignore it.

Ah, this explains it.

Another phenomenon that is on the increase is the look of sheer bewilderment on the face of an oncoming driver when travelling down a country lane.

Try Thailand. It's not unusual to be turning left into a junction and have a motorbike turning right out of the junction come past the other way on your left. If that makes sense.

Yes, this is very common and it's a pain!

But then again, I'm also finding people turning right out of T-junctions will often wait to turn out either halfway into the right-hand lane of their road, or occasionally even completely in the wrong lane. I normally let people out of T-junctions if I'm turning right into their road, but if I see they're halfway into the wrong lane I just let them sit there. When the road is wide enough for me to pass them, anyway. wink

Thats a different phenomenon - people who squeeze out like its their right of way! Well, no, its a busy road, you've just arrived at the junction, and after the two cars behind me, there's a massive space. Wait your turn you plick!

There's a corner on my commute that people coming the opposite way (turning right) cut despite the double white lines and blind corner. I've seen people with their whole tyre on my side of the road yikes.

Linky

The angle from this view allows you to see round the corner better than you can whilst on the correct side of the road.

ETA: In actual fact the Passat in my link is pretty close to getting over the line

This. Company car. If I'm turning right out of a junction, I'll be towards the right hand side of my lane, if they have to decide to either move the wheel a bit to get round on their side of the road, or collect the front of my car, so be it.
