What do I think? As this is PH, 5-6k means 7k, and it has to have a V8, so I think

Mini probably drives better, but are they really special enough for a weekend toy? scratchchin

We have an R53 Cooper S that is primarily my wife's car but we use it more than my 3-series at the moment. You could get a good 06 plate R53 Cooper S for your money I would imagine, and they are great fun. They sound great too, nice exhaust note and a lovely supercharger whine. You can also get them over 200bhp if you spend a few hundred quid.

I'm 6'4" and fit in the Mini fine, they are surprisingly roomy in the front.

I feel slightly less gay driving a Mini than I would driving a TT I think. There's not much in it, but think Tom Cruise as opposed to Dale Winton.

Personally, I'd argue that it's not worth having a four seat weekend toy, that you're better off getting a better main car.

If I had to pick one, though, it would be an RX8 or maybe some kind of muscle car. smile

Sticks.

Can't speak for the TT, but the Mini is very cramped in the back.

I thought it was a weekend toy? I don't think your definition of weekend toy fits with most here. If you need the 4 seats then maybe get a faster daily driver? S4? Focus RS?

You can get a low mile Fiesta ST for less than that if a sporty rather than superfast hatch is your wont. Reasonable room in the back too but "only" 150hp. Swift Sport and Fiat 100HP also fall in this price band.

Toy, I'm hoping by Mini you then referring to something like this:

And by TT you mean going to see this and not the style obsessed Audi.

The MINI and Audi TT are capable cars, the Audi more style than substance maybe. But weekend toys they are not.

This.

I have a mini cooper (wife's daily) and it's not that great to drive. For that money I'd look at a westfield or stretch a little for a caterham / mk1 elise or similar? Or BBR Mk1 mk5 turbo?

Lots of M3s around for that sort of money, or Imprezas, or Mustangs, or RX8s, or RX7s (I'm assuming the daughters are tiny with this one), or 944s, or loads of other things less dull than a TT or MINI.

The mini and TT are both crap for more than 2 people.

I've had a few minis (3 I think, poss 4!) and have just bought a TT (picking up soon) after extended test drive etc.

TT is superior car IMHO and if you get the 1.8 turbo 225 should be reasonably frugle, yet fun to drive.

These as a choice for a weekend toy? Why not consider the Audi A4 1.9 TDi and the BMW 318d as well? sleep

The TT is all about looks, particularly the 1st generation, and is extremely ordinary to drive. The mini is just a reasonably fun FWD hatchback. Both are, at best, about making your everyday boring driving a bit less crap. To have one as a 2nd car you own purely for fun seems rather lacking in imagination to me...

Uless your daughters are either v.v.young or don;t particularly need their legs then forget the TT... I'm a monsterously tall 5'9" and there was no room behind my seat for passengers
