As the title says really, I'm looking for a cheapish car, sub £2,000 that is not going to make me look like a little boy racer. I want it to be reliable and ideally fun, but not expensive to run, going the drifting route is not what I want either however I would take a RWD car!

The car that stands out to me the most so far is the Toyota Celica...

Any other ideas please?

This! Maybe even in touring guise, I picked one up earlier this year and it is a great car

Can you pick up a decent RX8 for 2k now?

Ive seen a few for that price, but not sure they are the runts of the litter.

I've also been looking for something similar, and yes RX-8's can be picked up for around 1500 quid with moderate miles on. I guess people can't afford to cope with 15mpg...Some of them I have seen had the typical rx-8 engine troubles, mind.

Hyundai Coupe 2004ish model? 2.0 16v 39mpg, 147bhp.

£2,000 is a fortune. You can practically have any car you want.

Rear wheel drive fun and not an MX5?

Add £20 for a set of legal plates and you're away. driving

Rover V8 instead of the Cologne V6.

Plenty of 924's or 944's.

Wrong wheel drive but pretty and pretty bloody rapid.

Fun in a different way.

There's a world of opportunity out there for £2,000 enjoy.

A mk4 Golf?! He said he wanted to have fun, not be bored to death! A mk3 MR2 would be my choice.

Was going to suggest a T5 Volvo with a remap or a t-5r having had one but I probably preferred the far slower 1.8 celica st with wide wheels and 114bhp as a standard daily. Celica was a phenomenal handling car, rwd might have been better but I'd certainly love to give the 4wd or faster fwd ones a go. Lovely predictable lift-off oversteer in a car cheap enough to enjoy it!!

306 GTI-6 would also be on my potential shopping list. At that price I'd set the 2k limit on autotrader and see if there was anything I fancied.

Why would anyone go Golf when for 50% of the price* one could go Alfa 147? I'm in a 2.0 twinspark and it does EVERYTHING! A proper handling hot hatch when you want and cool cruiser when you don't

C

*you'll pay the difference in Selena oil, but who cares? It's an Alfa. So it's not as well screwed together as an equivalent VW, but IMESOH, goes better.

Interesting thoughts guys,

Thanks for the replies. I have set a 2k limit on autotrader but there's so much rubbish to sift through I thought it would be best to come to you lot first smile

Think I will have a look around, the Alfa's did catch my eye, but I worry about the reliability? Anyone have any input on that?
