So I did the above... 700 miles from home to holiday and at 10.5 mpg seriously feeling poor and I have to drive her home too.

But worth every last penny, such a smashing drive and the old girl had a bit of a hiccup at the end but just performed lovely.

What car? Well over a £1000 worth of fuel by my reckoning, it must be a bloody good drive.

Not by mine though.

700 miles @ 10.5 mpg = 67 gallons = 305 litres @ £1.30/litre = a fraction under 400 quid.

Still not cheap mind...but still worth it...

??? Eh? My mental arithmetic is pretty poor but I'm struggling to see how you got to a grand.

10mpg is pretty crap!

For an early V12 jag that's actually pretty frugal...

Should be in the region of £430 spent on fuel, + - a bit

I assume he thought (for some unknown reason) that 700 miles were 700 litres, or he just did 700x (insert petrol prices) and forgot that there are more than one litre in a gallon. Maybe I am making excuses for him/her and thier maths are bad. hehe

1400 miles (unless he walking back)
140 gallons give or take
£5.80ish a gallon
= £800 so yes my maths was a bit out last night, still a fair whack though.
