We have a bit of dilemma in the family.
Went to see a car for myself today and the wife really liked a Giulitta parked in the forecourt. This would be way over budget unless we move to one car in the household which would be a sensible thing to do and I do like the Giuletta as well but, I do like to have my own car as this is the only hobby/passion I have.

She currently drive a KA MK1, engine still going strong but everything else is rusting away and it has already been fixed several times. What other car we could look at with a 2K budget which would look good?
size wise would have to be similar to a KA, petrol 1.4 or similar and reliable, used Mon to Fri for extremely short juorneys (less than 2 miles) and the occasional longer drive, what will sell it is the looks more than the actual driving experience.
To give you an idea, she likes the new Range Rover Evoques, new fiat 500 and Giulietta.

So far I looked at, minis but 2K only gets you a very high mileage and smart forfour but maintenance seems expencise and not as reliable as the KA.

What else is there?

Just buy her another KA if she likes them - there's plenty of choice around for the money and as you've realised the engines will quite happily chug along until the body falls off around them.

You'd get a pretty respectable Street KA for that money.

You'd get a very nice Ford Puma for less than 2k.

My girlfriend has a 2001 1.7 and it's a hoot. It's good on fuel and service costs. It is starting to rust round the rear arches so we are considering getting a cleaner, lower milage example because we like it so much.

Rust can be an issue on these cars, but the KA is even worse for this.

Puma or a fiesta to relace the Ka would be a good shout.

Ah, right, that model, I thought you were talking about the ancient one. The price seemed expensive and the word "decent" out of place! hehe

Not my cup of tea, I suppose the Dorises do like them though.

What about an Audi A2? £2k picks you up a reasonably smart one and they still look good today. The higher roofline would be good for loading the baby too.
