We were driving down the M4 on Friday and we came across this mysterious camouflaged 4x4, initially we overtook it but when I saw the fake front grill, like a cut down Rolls grill, I realised that it definitely was a disguised prototype.

Once my passenger started getting out his phone to take photos, he overtook us at high speed and drove off into the distance. We followed him and caught up with him in traffic.

Although it looks somewhat like a Range Rover, the clam-shell bonnet etc, as you can see this and other RR styling cues are add-ons and my guess is that it might be the Bentley prototype as the body shape and size from a distance looked very Cayenne-ish, it was also left-hand drive. However, maybe it is just a much bigger version of the Evoke?

After taking photos alongside him, the driver gave us the thumbs up and accelerated off into the traffic. Anybody got any ideas?

Shows up as a 5.0 Land Rover registered June 2012 but without a CO2 figure so tax disc at £220.

Yes M40 near Gaydon and surrounding roads common testing area for new models.
See them here first, only mildly disguised and adorned with the grey "camoflage" so you dont give them a second look. . . . . . .NOT.

Saw something similar on the m6 a few months back . Unfortunately my wife took four pictures of the interior of my car rather than the range rover smile

Saw two of these coming down the M5 on my way back from Silverstone the other week. Bizarre disguised front grille arrangement on them, as you say.

Why do they use crazy wrap like that? Is it to stop us recognising the lines of the car? TBH I think it attracts more attention to itself! If it was a silver or something of the like, a large majority of the Motorway users wouldnt even notice it.

Throwback to the days of cameras with poor autofocus performance - confuse the focus, prevent the spyshot.

Shame if this is the direction they're taking it, looks like they're moving away from the classic rangie shape and going generic and bulbous

I doubt that it is as it's a completely new shape and much larger than the current model. Looks like the new model Range Rover from the previous posts. wink

No, it is a Range Rover Sport, that's what the registration says. Also, if you look at it, it looks like a sport, no split tailgate for one thing
