Just trying to help out a friend in a qaundry about selecting a new car.

Must be;
No more than 6 years old.
Less than £7500 to buy.
Manual
Decent resale values
Reasonably economical, ie, mid 30s + (the higher the better.)
Reasonable tax, no £400 a year jobbies.

That's it really, fairly open ended so feel free to throw in any suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Do they like cars, or just want a mettle box in which they can bumble around as painlessly as possible.

A gold like this may serve, if they can stretch a little, and are disinterested in the motoring experience.

Edit: I find links always help

He has a reasonable interest in cars, likes the performance etc, but is no petrol head. Currently drives an RX8 so may give you some ideas. Previous to that he had a Mini Cooper S. He's looking for something of reasonable size too (his missus has a kid on the way).

So nothing about what they like/don't like. Speed, handling, power, dynamics, number of seats, boot size. You know the actual important things when picking a new car?

What is your definition of decent resale values??

resale: after my rx8 I bought an e46 M3, sold it a year later with only 10% depreciation, will have to be over 6 yrs old though with the budget specified but worth a shout
