Hi All,

I want to go to my local DVLA office and put both our plates (currently on our cars) on retention.

Do I just take my log book, MOT and tax disc?

Do I need anything else?

What are the fees and will they do the plate changes immediately?

Both our cars will be for sale!!

You need to fill in a V317 form and hand over £105 for each one

You can get more details here and download the form.

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/motoring/personalisedr...

You don't need the tax disc, just the serial number. They used to do it there and then but now it can take up to 14 days

To be fair, the majority of them will be sacked shortly when all the local offices are closed.

I was quoted upto 6 weeks but in the end it was quicker (just over 2 I think).

Yep.

And if you sell your car before it comes off the car then you risk losing the plate to the new owner....
