You may remember i had my 2004 Focus in for a service a few weeks ago, and it ended up going back as there was a leak causing a pooling of water in the passenger footwell.

Since then i've been on hols and when i got back and picked it up after 11 days, it ran fine, but the ABS light came on. A few days later the parking brake light came on (whilst driving), and then for an almost full house, this morning the battery light and airbag light came on the dash, followed by very poor running, and then the dash lights, speedo, radio and clock cut out!

This was on my way to work today, and obviosuly i'll be taking the car to the garage that did the service at the earliest convenience to have it sorted.

My reason for posting is to ask if anyone has experience similar issues, and what the potential cause may be? I suspect that the leak and pooling of water may have instigated these electrical gremlins.

As soon as i get a break at work, i'll go and check the car to see if it runs and the dash is working again.

Its hard to say if these issues are linked or not. Your latest problem of battery light and poor running sounds to me like the alternator may have snuffed it. Had mine go a little while back. The voltage spike caused my gearbox (auto), abs/traction and engine ECU into fault, lighting my dashboard up like a Christmas tree, and also put the car in limp home mode with reduced performance. Get the garage to plug in a diagnostic computer and it should give you a pretty definitive answer. Probably a code for over voltage or similar.

Sounds like they've messed up the seal on the pollen filter. Your ECU has probably drowned.

Yes, they had to reseal the cowling around the windscreen to cure the leak. Is the ECU located close by?

Hmm, broke down on the way home, just total lack of electrics/power. Got a tow home and used jump leads to close my windows (hey it was hot today and i didn't want to use aircon). My car started and ran on the jump leads, so my friend thinks it may be the battery or alternator.

Water ingress by scuttle panel disturbed when pollen filter replaced.
