I might be P/X'ing my car on the weekend and want to keep my plate, how is the best way to do this?

Given a bit more notice, I'd have gone to the DVLA and put it on retention (I think)and then waited 4 weeks for the V5 to come back, and then p/x'ed it. Not really got time to do that though, Can I trade it in without the V5, and then send it on later?

This is all a bit new to me, so I'm sorry if I'm not making sense.

Drive around with the plate currently on your new car while the DVLA are changing over the plates, few weeks time you change back to your private plate.

We traded our BMW coupe in for an X5 and they were happy to wait for the plate to be put on retention. Also it only took just over a weeksmile

Just ask the dealer to do it for you is the easiest way.

The dealer offered to do ours but knowing how long they took just to make up the new plates I declined and did it myself, you only have to fill the form in and send it to your local office after all.
