I just wanted to put this out there to see what others do/want to do in a situation which I experienced earlier today.

I was on my way to football training through Putney and into Barnes. There are a number of small streets through residential areas. The speed limits are set to 20MPH, it is slow I understand this but some of the streets are extremely small and lined with parked cars. I was doing around 20MPH and hurtling along behind me came a Megane estate which then proceeded at about 40-50MPH to over take me glaring at me as he went by. Now I didn't react like I would have many years ago but this just really makes my blood boil. He was the typical chavy tt (in his 30's) driving around in a st car with st halfords wheels and tints. I just hate the fact that he likely does this to others, the type to tailgate, flash and drive aggressively behind old ladies and the OH.

On the way home I sat and thought of the many ways you could deal with a prick like this. Slash tyres, smash head lights etc. Of course this is frowned upon and I understand (why I dont commit crimes such as these). Is this a general problem with the UK?

Not really a rant but would love to know what others views are.

Cheers

Either take their reg, and report it to the police citing that his driving was intimidating, but be prepared to follow through with it (ie if they do nick him for doing something stupid, be prepared to give a statement or possibly appear as a witness in court - it's amazing the amount of people who back out when things get to that stage) or do what I do, and take a deep breath and forget about it.

If you don't bite as it happens (which you are right in not doing) so take solice from the fact that one day he will do what he always does, tailgait, flash his lights etc etc but, one day, maybe tomorrow or maybe next month he will do it to the wrong person at the wrong time and no doubt get the biggest scare of his life.

Pricks like that aren't worth the risk of a criminal record or worse.

My blood was boiling when i had to drive along a road with all loss chippings where they havent resurfaced the road yet but they crumble it all up and let the cars compact it down. It has 20mph loss chippings signs and i was doing this as thinking of all the stones chipping my skirts etc.
Had an audi tt sitting right up my a*se. I was getting so infuriated. When he finally turned off i could see his car was filthy, he didnt give a toss about his car clearly. Really realy got my blood boiling, afterwards i was thinking how i wish i had stopped all of a sudden and got out and had a go at him, but maybe its a good idea that i didnt hey.

Yes in general I find people do overreact here to being overtaken badly. In the other countries I've lived in most would just shrug and let it go whereas here you want to damage his car. . . . . .

I have only ever once had similar thoughts following a bit of minor road rage that got excessively out of hand when a chap got a baseball bat out and tried taking a swing at me.

What with the adrenaline an shock I couldn't provide a very good description of the chap but he had a distinctive car which I spotted a few times after the incident and yes it would be easy to retaliate in the ways you describe.

The important thing is you DIDN'T and that is what makes you far far better than these people. I am not in the slightest bit religious but I do think that Karma will deal with these people in it's own special way, usually when they meet someone bigger/more aggressive/even less to lose.

You have missed the point, I could care less about being overtaken. It's the fact that it was in 20, in a residential area and the sheer speed he was going. I lived in Germany, Belgium, etc, i saw less of this type of thing due to people following the rules of the road. If your condoning 40-50mph in a 20 then so be it. I assume your the type to do this yourself.

And reflecting on wanting to damage his car. That was the read haze of which has now worn off. There are millions of wkers out there and I just have to think of that when I experience scenarios such as this.

Stop getting so defensive, he hasn't condoned someone being a twit, but he certainly isn't condoning you damaging somebody's property

Just let it go, has been same situation for hundreds / thousands of years with extremely ignorant arrogant ppl with horses and carts, it will happen again but dont worry about it. Just let them go to get on with their "so self-important" tw*tty lives.

take solice in the fact this happened to me quite a few times working in East London. tailgating, light flashing, abuse as overtaking....... then total shock as I put on the covert blue lights and pull them over. I usually took delight in PG9'ing these vehicles (if they drive them - they get arrested). They get lumbered with recovery costs, cost of repairs, cost of taking them to a garage to certificate the repairs, cost of the fine, cost of the additional insurance for points (if no insurance then cars seized and 8/10 crushed).

just doing my little bit for people like you.

Another problem with people doing stuff like this, when in a residential area is it helps the 'speed kills' brigade along, as speeding such as that in an area like that is obviously wrong, but when on a country road, perfectly safe. however if you fail to make the distinction, it leads to speed enforcement everywhere, and people who think any type of umm... deliberate lapse of the correct needle/ number interface is wrong and should be stopped.

therefore, behave in urban areas / villages, or you will have to do it everywhere.

also, It's plain stupid to speed in a built up area with parked cars, as not only can people run out etc, and you have no visibility.

Well done chap for not rising to the opportunity presented by the dick, and as previously said, we all consider it, but not doing it is the reason why we could be mistaken for being decent members of society. smile

When I left on my extended break in 2010 I think I was up to about 140. (that was in 7 years). Two of them happened to be footballers, one nice car, one basic ford focus.
