Depends on the car, what are we talking about?
MGs etc yes, most new cars no.

My mud flaps got torn off and one took a few inches of wheel arch with it frown So I say nay to mudflaps.

Just generally really, though I can see that some cars aesthetically 'need' them. Lots of OEM ones these days look like open topped, hollow hard plastic that is just going to fill with wet crud and hold it against the bodyworkfrown

Mudlfaps reduce spray in the rain on motorways massively and it is a shame more cars do not have them

Always look a good way of collecting mud and other crap and keeping it in the arches to me so no, not a fan.

What is it with the stupid flappy vinyl ones I've seen on "Look at me, I'm Colin McRae" Evos and Subarus?

Took the OE ones off my Astra when I got it. They'd scratched the paint nearly to the primer, and were solid with sand and muck. All manner of st hiding behind them, too. In total, got half a builder's bucket of crap out of, and from behind the 4 mudflaps.

If I didn't have mud flaps on the front of my Elise I wouldn't have paint on the rear wings.

"Stone flaps" would be a better discription. Vital on any car with a coke bottle plan view.

I think they suit my Octavia 4x4 - on that sort of car (so Legacy Outbacks, Allroads, XC70s etc.), completely acceptable.

+1

not to mention it reduces the chances of stones being kicked up by cars in front.

i was driving over some newly gravelled roads (because councils can't afford to roller them in properly nowadays and use public traffic to do their work for them), i was keeping my distance and driving slowly but my windscreen still got chipped by the guy in front who had no mud flaps.

Dunno, those nice chaps at Lotus fitted them to my car as an OE part.

You should have read my posts when I first got it biggrin

I have an MX5 as well. No mud flaps and it doesn't need them. But the Elise does, so it was relavant.

Good man. I had an Elise for 3 years, loved it to bits... oh and I do remember the mud/stone flaps, they were really suttle and did a relatively good job at keeping the stone chips down.
