Inspired by this thread http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

What car would you like to see a modern, bullet-proof, high revving VTEC engine in?

This would be nice.

Also, not being all that mechanically minded, just how hard would it be if you had the restored shell to convert someething properly like that Cortina?

Personally don't like the power delivery of a VTec engine, it's all nothing, nothing, nothing, bwarp - wow - quick change gear!

Far easier to keep a non-VTec engine 'on the boil' I think. Would love to experience a big lazy V8 though.

The trick is to not be in the wrong gear. It forces you to drive properly.

Even big V8s are faster in the right gear.

I'd want it pulling something light weight where the relative lack of torque isn't too much of an issue. I'm sure one of the smaller units would be a hoot in a classic Mini if it shoehorns in.

I'm generally more a fan of the big lump up front though.

This is true. The only gear you should experience the crossover in is first hehe

It's actually a pretty popular conversion in a Mini.

Some conversions local to me are a MK2 Escort and an E30 BMW.

If you're tinkering you don't keep the crossover at 5800... The power delivery is 4000-7000. If you've can't mangage changing gears in that you've got issues tongue out
