New Golf Estate Auto or alternative in a bright colour

The M-I-L has money burning a hole in her pocket and is interested in getting a New or Nearly new VW Golf Estate petrol with DSG in a bright colour (Red or Blue). I was thinking a Nissan Qashqai would be the way to go for her, before she definitely wanted an Automatic. Now I think her choice seems entirely reasonable.

So I've a few days holiday in Bromley with potential car shopping to do ;-) , are there specs/prices I need to be aware of or alternatives I need to think about, bearing in mind it has to be an Automatic?

Ford Focus estate, plenty of bright colours to chose from, and i do believe they have a couple of models with auto boxes, no idea if the powershift box compares to DSG though.

and a properly specced focus looks about 1000X less boring then a gold estate.

That's certainly a good alternative, never read about the powershift box either in any of the magazines. The Focus looks better value too.

If she likes the Golf, why not look at a Skoda Octavia estate? Same floor pan etc but should be cheaper.
