Amargeddon proof cars!
Discussion
so, the UK is in a deep recession, worst figures for 100 years, we are all doomed (after the olympics) and its all bad news.
Got me thinking, what cars do ya reckon will still be running come what may, even if we have total melt down?
My old favourite is the humble Morris Minor, had one as an only car between 1994 and 1996 and they just keep running whatever! I used the starter handle to get mine going once at 2 AM in the morning outside a Bournemouth hotel after an evening out. It was minus 4 outside and I thought the battery was flat. Turned out that the alternator was buggered. Now thats "get you home" dependability that I admire!!
Or something like an old W124 Merc 250d, no turbos or injectors and you can run it on chip fat oil.
More to the point, will any of our complicated injected, turbo'd and DPF'd moderns still be any good, if we end up in an old fashioned mend and make do society?

No stupid electrics!!!!! can be fixed with 10, 12, 14 & 17mm spanners, generally unbreakable, works on 99% clockwork, all that makes them inherently reliable. The engine bay has one wire to the pump shut off, one to the temp sensor, starter motor & a glow plug wiring, that is all it needs to work.
This is mine, by far THE most reliable car in our fleet & its also twice the age of any others we have, yet its worked the hardest of all of them. I'd happily drive it to Africa tomorrow.
