Has anybody heard or got any experience of this?

Extralube ZX1

My old man was talking about it, his mate reckons it worked wonders on his engine seeing improved performance (free-revving), increased economy and his turbo is seemingly in much better condition.

Is this snake-oil or does it genuinely work?

Extra bump. My friend just put this in his engine, the box reads like snakeoil...

I've been recommended Activ8 oil additive by somebody who had used it. I was sceptical but happy to hear if these friction additives actually make a difference.

99% chance of snake-oil. In the rare event it does do something to help frictional losses (I doubt it) I would imagine it has other undesirable side-effects that negate the small advantage.

Reading their "customer testimonies" it's anecdotal evidence about seeing economy improvements after a service... What a surprise!

I used it in the engine of my old Alfa 155 sport and from memory it seemed to smooth the engine from cold and generally I would say.

I have to say they are a waste of money.... use a good synthetic oil and you don't need to add anything else

unless you believe these companies have a magic formula the multi national oil co's haven't found?

(mobil exxon spend millions a year on improving their oils performance using additives)

Sometimes when I'm bored I like to find couples in supermarkets, and when they're not looking drop a bottle of anal lube in their trolley. The resulting arguments are priceless....

Modern oils take care of all your lubrication needs.
You don't need additives.

The little test they do on their website hardly mimics the conditions found in an engine- heat, combustion, old oil, fuel, carbon deposits etc. These additives are meant to be mainly chlorinated paraffin which is an old fashioned extreme pressure additive used back in the 30's for axle lubrication. when you burn it it turns into hydrochloric acid which is really rather corrosive- wouldn't want it in my engine. Also really bad for the environment and causes cancer and is on the verge of being banned in europe due to health concerns.
