Picked/picking up a Bora which has an Xenon sticker under the hood but didn't know how to work them. Should they just come on with the normal headlights or is there a secret switch somewhere? I'm guessing a car fitted with Xenons couldn't have normal halogen bulbs fitted?

No idea. Would be good if it did have them but not too fussed.

They can have for main beam (or for head light flashing) - but otherwise they just the normal lights for the car and will come on with the switch

Thanks. Will the wiring for Xenons be noticeable over factory headlights as would be handy if the wiring was there but just required bulbs. I'll have a better look when I pick up the car but turned the switch to on but didn't see anything other than the usual yellow-ish headlights.

You'll see ballast packs with an electricity warning behind the bulb holders if they are Xenons.

Best way to tell a lot of the time is to check the headlight switch, factory xenon equipped cars generally wont have a headlight adjustment switch like normal headlights as they adjust themselves using sensors

WTF?!

You're confusing auto lights with HIDs there.

No he's not

Halogen headlights generally have manual levelling systems, operated by a switch in the car

Xenon headlights have automatic levelling systems, so no switch

I think they mean they won't have the headlight levelling control as in EU (possibly elsewhere) original fit HIDs must have self levelling (or self levelling suspension)

I think he`s on about auto-levelling.

Lots of fail around tonight.

As stated, the previous owner may have put the wiring and ballasts for xenons in, but bypassed this and put halogens in for the MOT.

Factory fit HID's have to be self-levelling.

Xenons will also have washers. But to be perfectly honest if you switch the headlights on, you will know straight away if they are Xenon or not, the minute they strike up.

You should at least try flicking the secret switch really. Nothing to lose there.
