The AM Virage certainly looks different than other cars of its class and age. How do you think it looks? Please answer above and rant below wink

Well it's not flash but it's not bland either. And neither would i call it 'average'.

It looks special regardless. Non-Pistonheads should still be able to recognise it's not some Ford, Vauxhall or Eastern-box.

I like it. So for the sake of the choices available; it's 'flash'.

I've specified 'Flash' with expensive, and 'Cheap' with simple in the options above.

It looks closer to the flashy end, but I wouldn't put it in any of those categories.

To me it has a slight feel of an established kit-car maker's attempt at its own sports car design; The ideas are good, but the details don'y quite hang together well enough.

Still love it though.

Though i'd also argue you've deliberately picked pictures of a colour and configuration which don't do the shape any justice.

It's sheer size gives it presence, I think it's a well balanced shape thats let down by the details ie the choice of light units, the way the exhaust silencer is on view, the standard alloy wheel design and size. Does look like a big Calibra though and the Vauxhall's detailing was much better resolved - remember how tiny the headlights looked when it first came out?

I haven't voted as I don't think any of your answers are exactly fair.

Personally I think these look great and are a clear evolution of earlier styling..

Personally I think these are the best looking Aston's they've made and way way better than the current offerings.

They look very dated now, especially with the huge tractor tyres

what does dated really mean?? Of course it doesn't look new, it's not. But then neither is an E-Type of DB5 and they still look great.

I'd rather have something older that looks good than something new that looks less good.

The basic shape is fine, but the details make it look like a kit car. I've ticked the cheap option.

I think it doesn't fit into your categories. To me it looks muscular, like a American muscle car. It looks powerful. It doesn't look cheap, bland, flash or particularly expensive, but it's certainly not normal either.

Original AM Virage - Bland or Flash looks?

None of the above. It's not subtle, but I'm not sure flash is the word I'd use.

Cars with big spoilers and 25" wheels are flash. The Virage is more aggressive.

As the last of the proper Astons it's posh, not flash.

One could even pick more disputatious versions than the later 6.3, which undoubtedly looks more aggressive than the standard car.

wink
though, I'm interested in opinions about the looks from the original release. It really looks average, and 330PS wasn't something you'd have in more or less spectacular looking cars like the Scirocco, Corrado or Calibra. Only its proportions and 'zorst pipes are a giveaway that it must be powerful.

Personally, I really like the original Virage's style a lot, because it doesn't look flash. Subtle, as one poster said, fits into average/normal looks. No doubt, AM hit the nail on its head with this car! imo, of course.

Sadly, today nothing of similar understatement is on the market. As soon as any random compact car has a bit more power; you'll only get it with added chrome grille, red stripes somewhere, spoilers and wicked 18" wheels.

Most, if not all cars from 1988 look dated now. Did the Virage look dated when it was released though?

I disagree, some cars stand the test of time and still look fresh, others just look like they are stuck in the era they came from, ie. dated

I think it looks extremely dated now. Not a classic shape at all IMO.
