I'm a bit confused, I cancelled an insurance policy with Elephant at the very end of 2010 and since then have been a named driver on a policy at Direct Line (who didn't ask for proof of NCD when insurance was arranged AFAIK). Now I am looking to become a named driver on my new car but am not sure how I can get hold of the NCD proof, I called the Elephant customer services in India, who said proof was only available/valid for only 1 year after cancellation/deciding not to renew. Is this the case, that I lose my NCD because I am not a named driver for a year? Does it not depend on the company with which you are looking to start a new policy?

Thanks in advance

I know that Admiral (Elephant's sister company) say 2 years as I had to deal with this last week, so they might be worth a try if you explain it all to them.

Call back at a different time and get the UK call centre, they should be more helpful.

Finding the old proof would be the best thing to do

Will give this a go. Old proof seems to have disappeared.
