After a few mins on baisic meerkat related sites the my insurance quotes have been around the £600 mark with the best at £550

The word jumble in the thread title have quoted me £1090.

I suspect this is the opening bid as if they want my buisness this year it wont be the closing one.

Just left them after three years or more due to being given a silly renewal quote. Never a claim made but still wanted nearly double last years.

Just got a renewal quote that was about £400 lower than my quote from them. Was going to ring them up & bin them, but apart from a few quid they just matched the quote.

I've never ever ever had a decent quote of Flux's.. Normally at least twice as much as rivals.

That and the call centre staff being really arrogant I don't even bother getting quotes now.

Don't forget to tell them you are a PHer for your discount (which they will tell you they have already applied, despite you not having told them rolleyes)

Ah yes, the old +20% -20% discount trick.

They tried this with me, my insurance went up £400 despite owning the car 5 years, full NCB, decent postcode & no convictions etc... I rang up to negotiate, only to be categorically told that I would not get a better quote from them, it was the lowest they could offer due to all premiums rising etc etc..

Amazingly when I got a far better quote, they instantly dropped over £450 & matched the offer on my other car. I told them to stick it anyway, I had three cars insured with them, but now I have changed all of them over out of principle of them trying to screw people over.

Exactly. Customer retention doesn't seem to be high on their list of priorities. I am happy to stay with the same service even if the price can be bettered by a small margin elsewhere but charge shedloads more or try to then I will move and if possible not go back.

My experience exactly, got thrown by one of their questions (can't remember what it was now) the contempt in the guys voice I can still remember 11 years on. Tried them once since but they were double the best on the comparison sites.

I think they used to have the monopoly on imported/modified or otherwise different cars but now there's a lot more competition and choice out there.

Oddly enough, I've been running quotes on the likes of Disco 2's and 3.0 Troopers, and Fluxdirect have been quoting me £800 or thereabouts then everyone else wanted well over £1600. Should I be suspicious?

When i was looking for quotes on the RS nobody could get near Flux,it's a classic policy though so maybe a different set up.

I was on an American car policy with them which wasn't too bad, but I got a quote on an Astra SRI and they wanted £2.8k - went to Admiral in the end and saved 2 grand, and let my US car policy lapse. Next time I'll try another American car specialist and see how I get on.

Staff seemed helpful enough but I've had my fill of listening to "Waiting For a Star" (other customers will know what I mean)

The answer is to follow this procedure:-

1. Receive comedy Renewal Quote.

2. Get like for like quote on-line for £xxx(x) less.

3. Call to give them a chance to get in the Game and be told that was absolutely the best they could do.

4. PM this chap at an entirely unrelated company to the one the OP dealt with. This may well magically result in Real World pricing being restored. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/profile.asp?mem...
