Horrendous looking wreckage on the A40 westbound carriageway near Denham this morning. Rumoured to be caused by someone driving eastbound along it!

Does anyone know the facts?

Incredible, it must be utterly horrifying coming across a car travelling the wrong way on a dual carriage way/motorway.

Very sad for the relatives of the elderly woman but you must feel for the chap in the other car as I imagine he must be in quite a state of shock!

Another doddery old fker who shouldn't be on the road? Drunk? Or just tragic accident?

See that little mark at the end of each sentence......you know, the curly one, like the one you used............?

But thanks for your input.

Sad but makes you think there perhaps should be some sort of retest for elderly drivers, people often go up in arms over youngsters and speeders but oldies can be just as dangerous

No need to thank me for my input, it's a pleasure wink

It was clearly a tragic "accident" and maybe somebody was drunk, maybe not.

Your other "question" seems to me to be very insensitive and will only lead to the typical PH antagonism towards elderly drivers. There are good, bad and indifferent drivers of all ages, but maybe that was your intention.

As you were.

Err, sorry? There's no such thing as 'accident' in the current version of NewSpeak. It is COLLISION! "Road Traffic Collision!"

Now, after me.....

Or maybe UnGoodDrive?

Same thing happened near here recently - old chap drove the wrong way down a dual carriageway, horrible crash as a result.

Same here, in a way possibly they are worse as a lot of the time they don't actually understand they've done anything wrong.

The only person I have ever seen going on the wrong side of the road was an old lady, who was on the right side, then drove onto the wrong side, forced a car on that side onto the pavement because she wouldn't stop, and carried on. Ok, there are some great older drivers... but after a certain point there are more bad than good, because of the way the body stops functioning as well. It's not wrong to say, in the same way young guys are often problems because of too much speed and lack of driving skills, and lack of "proper" fear.

This. Elderly people should be retested as a lot of them are dangerous on the road, all to often you read of old people going up the wrong way of main roads etc. Someone near me was mowed down recently by some doddery old fk who drove onto the pavement and killed her. It's completely selfish..

I recall watching a police programme on BBC and they pulled over a car for not having insurance. It was a man in his 80s and he said that he didn't bother renewing. The police just kind of laughed, said god bless him and gave him a lift home. Imagine if someone young was driving without insurance and decided not to bother renewing... rolleyes

I saw the aftermath of this - and the resultant queues, heading into work this morning. The mind does boggle as to how you could enter a carriageway the wrong way though. Sad someone last their life whatever the circumstances.

Dipstick. Guess you have trouble understanding the statistics.

old lady at 4.40am drove the wrong way down the road on the right overtaking lane. Glad the other driver was not killed.

It was a question, one of three in fact.

Maybe you're too old and doddery to understand, though.
