A Small, and childish, victory, but a victory nonetheless. I was driving back from Bath last night, when a Qashqai pulls out behind me, with foglights ablaze, with sidelights. They were quite bright, so I gave them the "WTF" hand, and flashed my rear foglight at them. To my amazement, they turned them off! It was dusk, so I think (when they finally worked out where the headlights were) that they were amazed at how clear everything suddenly became.

Like I say, very childish, but a small victory.

Oh dear!

Now you have invited all the prolific foglight users to bombard you with logical reasons as to why they should be able to use them when there is no fog.

The lamest I have ever heard was:
'Well I dont put gloves in my glovebox, so why should I wait for fog for my foglights'.

Personally, I think they all need to be shown the coffee bean shake!!

If I remember rightly, the last Nissan I drove had the foglights as a twist knob on the same stalk as the headlights, so it was quite easy to make the mistake... for several seconds until you realise you can see fk all in the dark.

I got indignantly told once "They're not fog lights, they're driving lights". Yeah, your boggo 1996 Escort truly is a rally car.

I wouldn't advise this. A few years ago I was driving up the M40 after a long interview process. I saw a BMW 3 series coming up behind me in L3, I was in L2.

For some reason which I still haven't figured out, I felt the need to give him the coffee bean shake as he went past. Unfortuantely, he saw me do this and slammed on his brakes to pull alongside me. Whilst he was wearing a suit, he did not look like the type of person you'd want to mess with.

I then slowed down and pulled into L1, but he did the same and sat in front of me. It got to the point where we were doing 45 in L1, whilst I am bricking it not knowing what this loonatic was capable of.

I tried flashing my foglights at him to somehow justify to him why I called him a w**ker but this didn't work.

At this point I was faced with 2 options. Either pull onto the hard shoulder and come to a quick stop and hope he drives off. Or floor it past him and try to disappear. As I was in a 130k miles ST24 running nowhere near full power, and he was in a newish 320d, I didn't really fancy my chances in the latter option.

Fortunately after slowing down a bit more he decided to just drive off whilst shaking his fist at me. Could've been worse if he was a proper loon though. Learnt my lesson that day, don't risk p*ssing people off for little reason as you never know who they are or what they are capable of.

My preferred tactic is to switch my rear fogs on if anyone comes up behind with their front fogs ablaze. They can have some dazzle treatment and think WTF to themselves before they realise they to are culprits to oncoming traffic in a similar way.

This didn't work so well on the M6 about 16 months ago, cue 10 miles of E-Class estate tailgating me as a direct result. His tactics in his shiny new car vs. my '04 206 were lost upon me and he bottled it after a few brake dabs.

The maximum fine for incorrect use of foglights is £1000. That's often more than the user's car is worth.

I do agree with an earlier post though - if the switch is a sleeve on the stalk for the other lights, it's easy to turn the whole thing on by mistake.

So let me get this right...

You made a gesture at someone overtaking you for no reason at all, then went all limp and girly when he was rightfully aggrieved?

Some twit once told me he uses them because only the 'expensive' versions of a car have them, thus making him more important. I own a R32 which doesnt have front fogs so what does that make me???

This!

On a Quasqui, it's VERY easy to put the fogs on with an accidental flick of the stalk. The inlaws were fog light wkers for a while without even knowing it hehe

I have corrected them smile

Well I now feel bad. Although they did have sidelights and foglights on, so thought they were from THAT brigade.

Have you seen a Juke with all the front lights on? It's like Blackpool Illuminations.
I wonder if the controls are the same as the Qashqai?
