I'm thinking of building an XJ-S V12 Manual replica of Tom Walkinshaw's European touring Car.
I'm not after a concourse exact replica, just a V12 manual, for a bit of track day fun.
I know there are manual conversions out there but can't find anyone who does kits, any ideas ?
Any other advice would also be most welocom.

thedrivenman.com in the US (but ships to the UK) using new 5 speed TKO or 6 speed T-56 transmissions, or simplyperformance.co.uk based in Dorking that uses the Getrag 5 speed gearbox (second hand) from the 3.6 manuals.

Were the factory manual V12s just 4 speeders?

There is a member called normanD on here who I think is working on manual kits for Jaguars, so maybe search for him & send him a message?

Was he the one that mentioned the XKR manual conversion?

If they were anything like the E type one, which I suspect they were, they were a bit like hard work, remember driving my father in laws one in traffic, the big motor up front generated a lot of heat and the clutch was heavy, guess on track it's less of an issue, sounds like a great project. The four speeder didn't seem so bad in the e type due to the torque, could go everywhere in third.

The XJS used the same 4 speed as the E type although the top cover was different. Extremely hard to find as Es don't get broken for parts and there were only 352 manual XJSs built so they're not exactly plentiful either. A bellhousing and flywheel might be difficult to locate as well.

One conversion is http://www.classicjaguar.com/gearbox.html
I have no experience of this box, but the quality looks good.

Another option is to use a Supra box and there is a conversion kit available for that from Realm Engineering, for 6 cylinders not sure about V12s.

The one I drove, albeit about fifteen years ago, was quite agricultural and had a heavy clutch, I was told at the time this was not unusual by one of the delivery drivers who'd drive them more regularly than I did. I'm guessing you've seen Tom's car in the heritage museum in Gaydon? It's one of my top five exhibits and I would love to own something like that, they're a great looking car.

Seems so (although TWRs had it)-odd for such an expensive car -iirc Porsche 911 turbo was only other one
But why 4 speed ? was it engineering /technivcal issues/ time constraints? or cost?

Sounds like an awesome idea. If you want a bit more visual impact you might want to consider the Group44 XJ-S. IMO looks better than the Euro Touring version.

SNG Barratts did list a V12 bellhousing suitable for fitting the Getrag 5 speed out of the AJ6 engined cars. It might be worth anb e-mail to see if they still stock them?
