Car rental in Miami
Discussion
Ill be in Miami at the end of August - beginning of September and wondered if anyone could recommend a decent car rental place in or around the airport on a budget.
I've been looking at a compact car. Ford Focus or similar using the usual rental companies, Alamo, Thrifty etc. I just wondered if there was someone obvious I was missing. PHers help needed please!

They now have a centralised rental car centre where all the companies are based which has a "people mover" to take you there from the airport, much better than the previous free for all waiting for shuttle buses to the individual depots.
Make sure you get a fully inc price as you don't want to pay for extras when you get there.
At Alamo you just go into the lot and pick "your" car from the relevant row, which I preferred to the old way where the car is allocated to you. Not sure if other companies are doing this yet as have used Alamo the last 3 trips to the states.

Can be cheaper to book through an agency like USRentACar, CareHire3000 etc or even Expedia.
The snag with Alamo & Dollar etc is you'll get a lot of grief when you collect to car to buy various extra insurance covers etc.
Hertz sometimes comes out pretty well, especially if you can find a discount code - hotel and frequent flyer programmes often have them or you might just be able to find one on line (not sure how risky it is using a code if you're strictly speaking not entitled to).
On TheDibb (mental Disney forum) AutoEurope gets mentioned quite a bit as being pretty cheap, but I've never tried them.
I'm not into cashback sites, but if you're on a budget apparently a lot of the firms offer quite significant cashbacks.

Take off as many of the extras they will try to bundle you with, costs a lot.
Get a decent car, not everyday you'll be in miami, f
k a focus, at least get a charger or mustang. Or a big blazer if you're a big group.
ETA - the 2.7(i think ?) charger is pathetic, get the 3.5 Dodge nitro if available. The 300c is ok for cruising n comfortable travel.
