The 350z thread got me thinking of blanks on dashboards. You don't see them so much now. I remember when I wa young my dad had a Cavalier and the whole dash was blank buttons and always wondered what they were all for. hehe

Has anyone got more blanks than buttons?

A few on my Eunos...

Always a kick in the balls when you see dash blanks. A constant reminder to the (original) owner of all the stuff they could'nt afford!

There was a poverty spec SAAB 99 in the 1970s called the X7confusedand it had the

clock deleted so had a huge blank face in 1 of the 3 instrument holes.Awful thing.

It also had the seats from the then current 96 V4.

In '89, I had an early mk3 XR3i which I thought was the bks at the time. I was a bit miffed when I realised that after going in other XR3i's at the time, mine didn't have the multi cassette holder that was located in the centre console.

I wonder how dear that tick was on the option list when it was new. hehe

Fischer cassette holders, them were the days. The iPOD generation don't know what they are missing. Space for up to 6 cassettes and an indicator to tell you if a cassette was in the drawer :-)

The aforementioned cavalier also had one of these.

My car is bad for this, look at the buttons around the gear gaitor (not my car in the pic but a similar one off the web).

I know that in higher spec models you have buttons for a tyre pressure monitor and an auto hold function but otherwise who knows the "missing ones" are.

The black bits on either side of the recirc/heated rear window buttons are also blanks for heated seat switches but I think they did a better job of hiding this.

The engine makes up for the lack of heated/ventilated seats and whatever the other blanks may have done had the previous owner had the money to spec them! biggrin

It is hardly poverty spec even with the blanks.

I was in a Passat CC recently and I can remember one of the buttons being for parking sensors

I used to hate the blank buttons on my old 307, that were above the centre vents. The only one that was used out of the four was a button to lock the doors. The buttons were used on other models as, TC on/off, Alarm reset and Roof up/down on the CC.

Almost as bad as the 1.6 boot badge they used to put on old Fords. To show everybody how poor you were.

I had a Mk2 Fiesta Popular a few years back and you're right. It had a 2-speed heater and a heated rear screen and that was it. Nothing, zilch, nada. Thinking now I'm wondering what else one could need other than a radio.

I normally buy second hand but a car which was top of its range when new so I don't see many blanks now.

In my old Fiesta Flight, there was no rev counter, just a blanked plate where it would have been in a higher spec model. The space where the rev counter would have been had a black piece of plastic with a picture of a car on it (not even a Fiesta!) and no warning lights or anything. What bloody good is that?

They're great, I wish they were just the stickers/transfers so I could put them on my Eunos blanks.

No temp gauge is what gets me. The first you know about your engine overhearing is steam pouring out of the bonnet. hehe
