Eyeing up a new chariot and I'm leaning towards a (second hand) GTR or V8 Vantage and am trying to get a rough budget for running costs.

The Zed is thirsty (averaging about 19-20mpg per tank of V-Power) which isn't really an issue, but is also an old workhorse when it comes to looking after - 9000 mile service interval and it doesn't want for much. Tyres are still looking very good after 4000 miles of abuse (and were only 600 for a full set)

I am under no illusions that servicing on either of the above will probably be eye wateringly expensive, as will parts and crashing will be an absolute wallet burster.

Aside from checking the service intervals and associated costs (anyone who can shed some light from real world ownership, please feel free) am I missing anything?

So far I have tax, insurance, fuel and buying the thing budgeted for - financially it makes no sense (the housing deposit fund will take a massive hit) but you only live once smile

I share a gtr for ring trips, it's eye wateringly expensive to look after properly. Before you even think about service costs, I'll leave you this impressive nugget:

It costs around 110 euros to fill her up & we get (just) 4 laps of the ring to a tank smile

I own a GTR and it's THE best car i have EVER purchased!!! Yes it will burn a £70 tank of fuel in 250-275 miles with day to day driving (350 miles plus on the motorway) but its an epic machine and well worth the money. They seem to be holding their money well at the moment which is good. My friend had an Aston V8 and whilst it was nice it was not fast and the service costs from Aston were silly (at 12k miles it cost him £3000!!!) The GTR on the otherhand is about £200-£500 per service until you get to the 3 year one which is about £1250. Japanese build and reliability as well and you can use it all year round-even in the snow!!

That doesn't sound too bad actually. I've owned 2 litre hot hatches that do worse than that!

Going by the previous poster though, I suspect it will take more like £90-£100 of fuel, rather than £70?

Do i have a fuel leak? My 1.6tdci focus will only manage 4-500 miles on £70 motorway driving!

That is just one example of an Aston, most of the ones I know generally cost £1k/year to service at a main dealer, £600-£800 at an independent. I'm sure Nissans can cost just as much, if not more (brakes for example, and isn't there an issue with the bonnet if you have a slight bump?).

The Aston might not be as fast, but it's a nice place to sit and makes a fantastic noise, more than can be said about the Nissan.

If V-Power is 140 ppl x 4.546l = £6.36 per gallon. You would have to get 25mpg out of the Nissan to get 275 miles out of £70.

I would suggest that this is only likely on a motorway with cruise control on wink

Around town or pushing on i wouldnt be surprised if 10-15mpg was nearer the mark as i am averaging around 20mpg or so in my Z4MR and it is smaller displacement, lighter, no turbo's and so forth although i can get 30mpg+ on a motorway run.

Going back to the original question i would add up the costs of your 350Z and multiply by 2 for the GTR and more for the Aston (x3?) and im guessing you wouldnt be far off in terms of running costs and then add on the depreciation.

It's not a million miles away to be fair, my boss was getting 21-23 out of his old one around town.
