AS per title, I'm considering visiting the Olympic Park area during the closing ceromony to view the fireworks etc! I have no idea on the logistics, although I know that they are located in Greenwich.

I would be traveling up from Southampton!

Is it going to be worth it do you think? Or is it a good idea even?

Don't you need to have pre bought a ticket to enter the park?

Unusually for a car biased website I recommend public transport.

Seriously we went up last weekend to watch the boxing. Loads of staff and signage everywhere, its easy.

If you want to do something else while you are here that needs a bit more planning as lots of places are restricted, closed, or massively busy.

Our tickets were for the evening session, so we went up earlier in the day and spent the afternoon in Canary Wharf. There was a big screen set up on the green and we watched the tennis with a G&T. Had some nice food before heading over to the arena. Had a nice day.

The new Cable Car over the river is well worth a visit, but might be a bit of a diversion if you are going to the main Olympic village. The boxing was in the Excel which is where the cable car takes you.

If you want atmosphere Hyde park http://www.london2012.com/join-in/live-sites/londo... has huge screens set up, and its free.
You can pre book tickets if you get there before a certain time, or just queue up when you get there, although I'd expect it to be crazy busy.

We went up to the Olympic park yesterday.

Park up at Ebbsfleet station, hop on the Javelin Train which was running every 15mins or so, get off at the venue.

Bought it all online ahead of the day - parking was about £8 for the day, train tickets where about £20 return for 2xadults and 2xkids. Bargain I thought.
