Getting into the motor industry

Hi guys! I'm 17 and I've spent the last year studying aeronautical engineering. I have one year left of the course which I plan to finish but after I want to move on to something different.

As the title suggests I really want to get into the motor industry, but I don't really know where to start! Preferably I'd like to get into design and manufacturing or something else along those lines, so what would be the best route to go down?
