Insurance - me owner, she keeper, her policy?

I know that generally the owner and keeper must be the policy holder, I.e you can't insure yourself (as main policy holder) on a car you don't own. But if you want to buy somebody a car to use but retain ownership, can they take out a policy? Maybe where I am the registered owner and they are the registered keeper???

An example might be an old bloke with a super expensive classic, he isn't going to drive it but he wants his grandson to use it all the time. Can he keep ownership but allow his g/son to take out the policy?

Lastly, on a similar note, when ppl advertise cars for sale they say only on proof of full comprehensive insurance - this must be a special insurance because you can't insure somebody elses car!

and, to answer your last question, they're looking for the legendary Driving Other Cars clause, to allow test driving legally, and assuming it's present in all comprehensive policies.
