Because of the way we buy cars, wife tends to have the newer car, and I have it after 3 years. I do lots more miles so the depreciation is heavier on me, and I reserve to right to have a weekend car - I haven't got one at the moment but I've had Caterhams (plural) and a Cerbera in the past.

For insurance purposes, is there any benefit in registering the car in my name? I didn't last time around (2 cars ago) but I can't remember whether this was a good or bad thing.

There should be no difference in insurance if the car is in her name. At least there wasn't when I recently did the same.

Id leave it in her name if you can - "1 owner from new" and what not.

Thanks, although I need to clarify "newer" and not new. smile

That said, I think she's only the 2nd owner and it's a Merc ML so probably worth limiting the number of owners for whenever we do sell it on. Thanks again. beer

1. Owner
2. Registered Keeper
3. Main driver

Can be three separate people or legal entities. Just be honest with your insurer about who each of these three people is. Breeze.

(I think the insurance policy holder can be someone else too, e.g. a fleet policy.)
