I can provide the car. I need the space.

Other than renting an airfield, what are my options?

Yeah suppose you're right, learning how to j turn can help your experience in general driving and probably in general situations in life. I, myself, needed to do 3 j turns on my way from work this evening.

J turns are easy, but I really don't know why you need to do them.

J turns are soooo last year, i think you'd be better skiping them and going straight to K turns.......... ;-)

Front wheel drive cars it's very easy to do. Never tried it in an RWD car, but it'll involve more coordination...

I have the technique down. I was on that 2guysrally video years ago. I just need some place to practise. Ideally striking a balance between looking like a chav and hiring an airfield.

Also, what the hell is up with people questioning when one would need to do a J-Turn... don't you ever just do things for the fun of it?

It's not difficult to do, no harder than a handbrake turn really. Just find a big empty car park without too many obstructions. Reverse at speed (this is important or you won't swing round properly), clutch down, spin the wheel one way, first gear, spin the wheel the other way, drive.

It won't take long to learn - it's remarkably easy.

Find a biggish car park with nothing to crash into on an industrial estate late one night. That's what I did.

Can you j turn a car with abs (as most have now)? You need to lock up the front wheels by braking hard as you turn hard surely, and abs would stop this wouldn't it?

To answer "what's the point?", evadance of course! You're driving along, the road is blocked, it's an ambush! You hook reverse, floor it back the way you came, flick the car round 180 degrees in one fluid movement and away before your would be assailants are even in their motors!

Could happen... biggrin
