VOLVO C30 2.4 D5 R-DESIGN - Anyone any experiences?
Discussion
Right am after a mile muncher as am going to start a fairly heavy commute to work. Have the motorbike for fun so looking for something a bit different, comfy, smallish (work in Edinburgh centre) with some toys. Have had a look at one of these the other day and really liked it but never got the chance of a shot. (yet!) does anyone have any knowledge of these as can't find much on here. I have a soft spot for the white and brown bodykitted cars
Things to look out for, real world mpg/reliability, etc would be nice to hear some stories.
Something like this is what I'm after. Or alternatively suggestions if you think the OVLOV is crap!

I don't know the engine but our C30 2.0 R-Design was excellent. We only sold it due to needing more space for a sprog.
Good points - the drive is pretty good (shares the underpinnings with the Focus IIRC), the interior is excellent and IMO it looks great inside and out. Rear passenger seat space is good as they are 2 dedicated rears seats not a 2.5-3 seat bench.
Bad points - the boot is tiny and the opening an awkward shape. There are definitely only 2 rear seats so maximum of 4 people (although they do fold flat separately, so 3 people and luggage is doable).

Don't have a C30, (Dad has a V70 D5) but one thing about all Volvo's is that they are very comfortable! Engines are pretty strong (over 130,000 at the moment on the V70). One thing we've noticed from Volvo ownership, and not sure if other owners have noted, is the consumption of light bulbs! Our car seems to get through them a lot!
I have the T5 version as I needed a car with more room than a sportscar but I don't commute by car so the engine wasn't an issue for me. It's an extremely comfortable car and comes with plenty of kit as standard (mine was 2nd hand but only had a few extras on it), however, the boot is an utter pain. The access is an awkward shape for anything really! However, if you can get past that I think it's a good car for the commute. It's not got the world's best handling but it's not terrible and if you are going to be mainly motorway based then I doubt that's a massive issue.
