Morning,

Windscreen wipers stopped working on my 53' Audi A3 so booked it in with Audi. 2 hours later was told need new linkage and motor, £400. The wasn't an option as didn't have the money. They also said there wasn't a short term fix either. Luckily I got a friend to look at it, one now tight nut later my wipers are good as new.

Spoken to the service manager since, who was very good at saying "sorry and "yes I agree" but no gesture to make amends. Might be a one off but I'm never showing them my car again.

Main dealer taking the piss.

They are so used to doing warrenty work that older cars with private owners don't stand a chance.

Find a good back street or mobile mechanic and don't go near the dealer.

Not sure if they did anything during the 2 hours they had the car, but the wipers failing is a known fault with A3s. IIRC, one of the spindles wears / rusts in the arm mechanism, and this puts an undue load on the motor, hence the requirement for a new motor and wiper assembly.
