surely this is a real contender

it's like being offered advice on a car from Joey Barton

Do people only buy Ssang Yong because they have 'a merc engine'

I remember seeing one and it would have been less than 2 years old and the bumper and tow bar were rusted to hell

Its been discussed on here a few times, but I always think Griff Rhys Jones advert for the VX220 to be the worst.

If this worthless promoted a car to me I'd avoid it like a dead drop.

The best thing about it is that it's cheap. That's a good reason to 'desire' one.

As the bumpers are plastic and the tow bars made by Witter you may be mistaken about the rust and be saying more about an non SY part that about SY itself.

Truly dreadful wasn't it. I can almost forgive the Edmonds/Barrymore Metro adverts as the target market was so broad and they were (unbelievably) very popular in their day.

Quite who GRJ wearing a wig/false beard and underwear is supposed to appeal to when selling a 2 seater sportscar is anyones guess...

While we're at it every person I've ever met with a Ssangyong (and we get plenty through with caravans behind at work) bought their Ssangyong "because it has a Merc engine" and takes great delight in telling me about it despite it being an ancient oil burning lump of pig iron, indeed a fellow just two days ago with a Ssangyong Odious boasted of his Merc engine and £500 road tax the bearded nutter!

Not Ssangyong bashing tho,for some sick and twisted reason I quite like some of em like a Rexton in silver or the flagship well chairman saloon thingy that looks like a Maybach.

Years ago Merc owned a sizable share of SY. ( older Korando and Musso)
At that time the 2.9 Diesel and all Petrol engines were built under licence from MB and had a sticker to that effect on the cam cover.

MB has scaled back it holding in SY (maybe still has a very small share).
The 3.2 petrol still has the sticker and is built under licence.

Since the launch of the Rexton with 2.7 Diesel engines there has been no Merc connection with that motor.

OTOH The Merc 270 engine isn't a Merc engine anyway.

HTH
Both engines are made by an Austrian company (AVL ?) who make engines for MB, SY, BMW and VAG amongst others.
The SY shares the same block, crank and pistons and head bolts with the Merc. That's all.

It is equally as accurate to say that merc use a SY engine.
MB uses Bosch FI whereas SY uses Delphi etc.

If your Rexton or Rodius is an Auto, however you do get a genuine MB auto box
