When ive passed!
Discussion
Hi there guys,
Im just wondering a few things,
im currently learning to drive at the grand old age of 18.
When i pass my girlfriends dad has said i can drive his car if i can insure myself on it,
He has also said that he will put me onto his policy if i pay the difference,
the car in question is a W Reg Peugeot 206 1.1 3dr,
How much roughly do you think the difference will be considering i will be 18 with a brand new licence!
Help appreciated

When I passed at 19 to be added as a named driver to my dads insurance would have made it go from £450 to £1450 on his BMW 318iS, not too bad really as I chose to get my own car and paid £1100 for 6 months insurance. That was 4 years ago, insurance was pretty bad for young male drivers back then but since they seem to have pulled the ladder up completely for new drivers.
Be aware that you won't accumulate your own NCD. And if you have a crash in his car he'll lose his no claims and have to declare the accident for 5 years.
It might be worth seeing if you can be added as a learner to get some experience before your test and you go it alone on the roads, if you're lucky it might be fairly cheap and perhaps you can talk your FiL into paying the difference as you'll be a safer driver and his daughter will be safer in the car with you

What would make it cheaper is a black box fitted to the vehicle for the first year you drive it. Think only certain insurance companies do this but the rewards are instant and after a year, a well reduced premium.
Also add to the fact that the proud father of the lovely daughter will be glad that the black box is making you think twice about drifting and jumps over the local hump bridge.....with his daughter in the car!
..if you are inclined to drift etc that is!

i would not bother with relying on your girlfriends dad to get insurance
why not just get your own parents to insure you on their policy, or get a trade policy, or live in a caravan in a low insurance policy postcode area and insure a m3
if you live in a medium postcode area i would say 2 grand increase
