Being intimidated when driving at 60mph?
Discussion
Why do idiots in rep boxes INSIST on pathetic tailgating and attempting ridiculous overtakes when I'm calmly driving at the national speed limit on a twisty B road?
Surely driving with courtesy is not too much to ask, if they must "make a point" by overtaking, why can they not do so safely bearing in mind that, on the whole, they don't have the acceleration or driving skill of a gnat......

Must admit, this doesn't ever happen to me. Just completed a 1200 mile motorbike ride over a week all on small A roads and country back lanes, we were rarely if ever hypothetically exceeding the speed limit.
One of my workmates also seems to have people endlessly tailgaiting him, mainly down the roads that I used to drive home on as I lived near him. I never had people doing it there either.
Could be down to one of three things -
1) You are just really unlucky and everyone decides to tailgait you.
2) Your speedo is grossly out, therefore you are only actually doing 45-50 at your indicated 60
3) You constantly brake round corners or exhibit other strange habits causing you to appear erratic on the road.
I think I last got tailgaited on the M40 driving up north last week, whilst overtaking someone on the inside lane at 70+ until I pulled in. Can't remember any other times before that in the past 3 years.

People suggesting the OP should have to exceed the speed limit can go and f
k themselves.
Ignore those
s OP just drive at whatever speed you feel happy with and if you find yourself being tailgaited by some asshole just pull over when safe to do so.
I generally drive at the speed limit and on the odd occasion some knob with small man syndrome will tailgate me. I just ignore them and oddly enough if the road is sufficiently twisty I'll generally drive away from them. Of course they catch me up as soon as the road straightens up and with any luck they'll be able to overtake safely. I always do my best to facilitate this and speed them on their way to a date in court or worse.

I've been known to tailgate when I'm in the Mini...(yes this makes me a
) but when I know you can do over 60 on what are good roads it annoys me when they do 30-40 and brake on every corner.
In the Subaru I just overtake them because its easy but I rarely 'hoon' in the Subaru like I do in the Mini.
I imagine the Mini doesn't do the whole intimidation thing too well though, but it is very loud and does pop and bang.

If he is holding up traffic he should move over, as stated in the Highway code, and allow the faster vehicle behind to pass, it doesn't matter tractor, car + trailer/caravan, Sunday Driver, whatever, exercise common sense and common decency and allow overtaking.I do this all the time, okay it's mainly bikes, but that's because no matter how slow I think I'm going I always seem to find someone hell bent on going slower.
I've seen Caravan's holding up a Tractor and silage trailer before today.
lastly it's not the OP's job to enforce the speed limit, for all he knows the car trying to get past might be unmarked bib making stealthy progress as necessary.
There's no excuse for that sort of aggressive driving. If nothing else, you're better able to set yourself up for an overtaking manoeuvre if you hang back a bit so you can see.
What I find even stranger is people who tailgate in the villages and then don't even attempt to keep up in the NSL sections. I had that over the weekend with a woman who came thundering up behind me doing 40+mph in a 30 zone. She disappeared backwards once we reached the GFL sign only to reappear on my bumper in the next village.

for tailgaiting people. You shouldn't get annoyed if people aren't prepared to exceed the limit and likewise those asspipes who confidence brake during cornering should be sending up a red flag- avoid at all costs. Driving too close to t
ts like that is a recipe for disaster.Sometimes if I know there is no chance of overtaking and the road is a particularly enjoyable one I'll just pull over for a minute or so and wait for a nice clear bit of road and hope I don't catch up the clueless w
kers too quickly.Don't be intimidated, drive at the speed you want to and if they're such brilliant drivers they'll find a way past.
I was out for a run in my MX5 last month when a DB9 came up behind me, not tailgating but obviously wanting to come past despite me already being in excess of the limit. I wasn't going to back off on any of the curves but the first time a decent straight presented itself I gave the left-hand indicator a blip and they were on their way with a wave. It did occur to me that driving is much nicer when everyone's polite and no-one's interested in proving whose penis is bigger.
