Driving to, and in and around France for 11 days soon. Where is best for good, cheap cover? My current insurers have offered me a 'green card' but it doesn't sound like great value.

What have people paid in the past and who have provided your cover?

Thank you, gents.

Assuming you're talking about a car with a UK policy it will be covered for use in EU countries.

It should say that on your certificate.

Fraid not, I'm on a motor trade policy so need to add additonal cover.

Hi

Every insurance policy I have had has covered me in Europe for free if for not greater than 30 days. Have a careful read of your documents... you might already be covered.

I have never taken out a separate policy to cover me in Europe so cannot offer advice there.

I thought it was a statutory requirement that your insurance covers you for 30/60/90 (not sure which) days in Europe?

It should certainly be the case for the minimum level required in that country, co TPFT. I'm reasonably sure that green cards are no longer a requirement, they just make it easier if plod wants to understand your insurance papers.

My trade policy covers me. It's written on the back of the certificate.

Can't see anything, hence why they wanted to sell me a green card (?)

What has your insurer/broker actually said? Have they said you need a green card?

The last time I heard anything about green cards was years ago as a kid. i.e. before the whole Europe wide cover thing.

Loon or Zollar will probably be able to help.

I can't find anything in my policy relating to driving in Europe. I've just renewed my insurance with Crowthorne, via TradeWise and when I mentioned about driving over to France they asked for how long etc, and rung me back quoting £90 for a Green card. Does sound a little archaic!

Although a little unclear, their website suggests you will have the minimum insurance cover to drive in europe on a trade policy. I reckon the extra premium is to get fully comp cover. Depends upon what you need

Stewart Collins is the best for European cover, try them.
