What Q car would you have?
Discussion
If you were looking for a new car, budget not too important, but wanted a very fast car but not to look fast what would you go for?
I'm not suggesting anything for the track, purely for the road.
My first thought is a BMW 550i estate, SE Spec but with full suspension upgrades running on standard 17 or 18 inch wheels. An M5 looks too flash and the 550 isn't that much slower but could look like a cooking 520d (twin tailpipes excepted)

I like Q cars and sleepers. But I just don't understand some peoples take on it.I'm not suggesting anything for the track, purely for the road.

To most "Jo Public" a new BMW 5 Series is fairly flash. So just don't see why anyone would think them slow. In fact many of these people would be hugely unlikely to even ID an M5 over a regular 5 Series just by looking at it.
To anyone that actually knows about cars or BMW's will know a 550i is rapid and will likely know what an M5 looks like. They'll also know 5 Series can be fast, so again it will be no surprise they are fast.
On this basis something like a 5 Series is an epic fail in every respect as a Q car.
If you want Q car you need a car people don't think would be fast at all, yet is. Or you need something so unknown in the UK that despite it's looks people may not be aware that it could be fast.
One of my mates has a black two year old S4 avant. You do get some funny looks from people expecting the usual rep mobile when you go melting past with bikes on the roof and his dog looking out of the boot.
But most people expect the premium German cars to be fast anyway, even if their version of fast is several miles behind what you're actually driving. I've been told that my diesel Audi Q7 is fast by non-car people!

An e24 6 series fully restored and fitted with a V10 out of the last M5/6 suspension and brakes sorted but left looking standard.
Not sure if that fits everybody description of a q car but IMO not many people would expext a car that old to shift that fast.
