Buy my first car from a dealer today, what should I expect?
Discussion
I've recently broken the habit of a lifetime and bought a car from a dealers(used-approved type car). Nothing ground breaking, an is220d.
Seems strange(to me) that I can't collect till the sales person I was dealing with is free, I mean its just a used car!?
Any particular things I should look for/expect apart from what we've agreed to be done?
I'm a little excited but also its a sad day when I couldn't find a better deal without going to a main dealer!

You a get 12 month warranty, which is good. My F-I-L has an IS220D and rates his Lexus dealer. He bought his at 9 months old from them and it's been faultless in the 18 months he's had it.
I'd expect nice coffee and biscuits at the least

To be honest they've been great to deal with so far.jason61c said:

Wouldn't you rather collect the car from the same guy that you bought it from, you know him and will have developed a relationship with him, there will be a little bit of paperwork to be done to and he will want to explain a few things about the car to you, it's not just a case of being thrown the keys and told "it's parked over there, have a good weekend" I'm sure if that was done you wouldn't be best pleased? Also salesmen are on commission, rightly or wrongly none of his colleagues will want to hand it over to you potentially missing out on a deal that may come in whilst they are tied up handing over their colleagues car for him potentially whilst he's also signing up someone else.
If he cares about his customers he will want to hand it over to you anyway, he will want to look after you from the moment you signed the paperwork and paid the deposit right through to the day the car is collected and probably beyond with annual follow up calls.

Look forward to a pleasant experience. He should run you through most things on the car, if you feel you know it already, let him know, so he doesnt bore you!
He will just want to make sure that the closure of your experience with him has been positive, and that you leave with a positive view of the dealership

Thats why ive never used them! Hoping the famed lexus aftercare is true.....
It's the Japanese Mercedes, you know. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YllyBr_4Kxk

My very first job out of college was working in a dealership. My favourite part of the whole job was handing the car over to the customer and taking them through what everything did in the car including the little features that many would never know their car had unless they read the manual. I also used to give them a bottle of Champagne which always went down well.
It should be a nice pleasant experience and save you looking like a div at the petrol station like I was when I bought my s2000 privately and couldn't find the petrol cap opener

I looked at a new IS220D about 4 years ago and the salesman told me they weren't on commission in the traditional sense, but targeted on customer care and satisfaction. May have been lying, but certainly there was no pressure at all. He accompanied us on a test drive and we were out on all types of road, lasting well pver an hour, as I wanted to test it properly.Didnt buy it in the end as we decided it wasn't practical enough as you couldn't fold the rear seats down but by far the best dealer experience I've ever had.
Enjoy the car!
