Alternatives for a fiat cinq sporting
Discussion
Hi guys, first of all apologies for dirtying up general gassing with essential y a what car, which has a near 0 chance of me ending up buying something (because i tend to change my mind about cars every 5 seconds these days)
Last year i bought a cinq sporting for cheap as a fix-er-upper, with two goals, 1) learn to wield a spanner (which i did, replaced a head gasket etc..) and 2) have a cheap (and i do mean very cheap) to run slightly sporty funbox to mess around with. goal 2 wasnt achieved since said cinq turned out to be a f
king money pit, so i ended up parting it out to recover some of the money i had already thrown into said pit.
So here i am once again considering getting a cheap/sporty funbox. I could buy a cinq with a years MOT, and i do have some knowledge about the oily bits of those by now, so it sort of makes sense, however, the way my previous cinq turned out has somewhat left me angry at the little buggers and the thought of getting another one doesnt appeal much, so i find myself looking for alternatives
so, what car?
1) very light, a cinq is 735KG and for tax purposes i want to stay under 850
2) not extremely powerfull, but not superslow either, i want a bit of fun, but no ensurance monster either, so nothing turbo-ed etc..
3) fun to run around B-roads at 50-55 mph so somewhat sporty
Even a pug 106 1.1 would outperform the cinq, but i somewhat question its sporting credentials, an XSi would be an option if i find a nice one, rallyes/GTIs would be very nice, but sligtly outside of my current budget (yes, scraping the barrel here)
So, any suggestions for a light cheap B-road funbox?

Rover Metro.
Right, slight addendum, we are talking netherlands here, so rovers are pretty much nowhere to be found, and if i do have my knowledge straight i'd need to find a set of imperial spanners, which are again, nowhere to be found. Thanks for the suggestion though

And I'm pretty sure they're all metric. The earlier models were imperial though.

Good find, somewhat above my budget though, and 1850 buys you a very nice 106 rallye S2, which would be a good bit quicker then a metro..And I'm pretty sure they're all metric. The earlier models were imperial though.

What's the market for classic Minis like over there?
The kind of money i am thinking about throwing away would get you one with sills made of plaster/paint, a mate of mine will testify to that, and the engine on his was a non runner as well

Can you get a 205 Rallye over there?
Actually, they probably won't be in budget.
Sadly, 205's are plentifull, but rallyes/GTIs are a rarity and priced accordingly.Actually, they probably won't be in budget.

If you consider a Cinq. Sporting to have been a money pit, can I suggest a pedal bike or walking?
A good one wouldnt be, this one was. After fixing the head gasket i did some inspection to see what it would take to get it through an MOT and for that sum (assuming i'd do the work myself, so no labour) i could have bought two cinqs with MOT, hence my decision to break it.I know what to look for now, so i wont repeat the mistake of buying a rotter whilst focussing on "oh, can get my hands on some oily bits"
