turbo problem on golf p reg 1.9 tdi

i am up to my ears on this! my turbo has stopped working for the second time!!! first time was the wastegate solenoid. that was solved for a while. until now. The first time this happened i had to stop the engine for a while and then start it again and this would work and the turbo would start working again! but now it does not work at all, does not go above 60!! even if i stop the engine and then start it again. no turbo what so ever! also has a habit of reving it self up when you start it up! please help!!!!

So how do you know it's a turbo problem and not a fuel/pump/filter/pressure problem?

I love internet diagnostics with minimal information...

If it's a VW TDi engine, I'd put money on it being the MAF meter. They're one of the real weak-points in the engine. Unscrupulous garages will diagnose it as a turbo issue because that's an expensive fix and a new MAF isn't.

No idea my default would be to check boost control sensor. Or otherwise just reseat solenoid and see how you get on.

Have you looked for boost leaks? I'd connect to to VAG-COM and check the request vs actual boost pressure.

Should still have the OBD connector behind the ashtray in centre console. Mine does.

i have checked the pressure that's fine, changed fuel filter, air filter is fine. i have checked the down pipe and that is fine! any other advice??

I don't understand. If the turbo isn't "working", how would the pressure be fine? Is the turbo spooling up?

If not, I would second the MAF fault. Try unplugging it and see if it makes any difference.

Other than that, a shot in the dark may be turbo oil seals? Seals have gone causing the turbo to seize and in turn is letting some oil into the combustion chamber on start up causing it to over rev?

the turbo is spooling up! also revs up to 2 1/2 then ticks over fine, when you start it up just wondered if this is actually linked as well.
