Well, is it?

I'm in a bit of a quandary as I am considering tinting the windows (B pillar back) on my 5 series estate. Mine is SE spec rather than M sport that has tinted windows as standard.

Car is very dark blue with beige interior. I wouldn't go for limo tints, I'd go with the same strength as the M sports. I'm just worried it could make it look like a Chav wagon or a hearse.

Thoughts most welcome.

If you worry about it then don't do it. Surely it should be about what you want rather than what everyone else thinks?

Yes.

But then you know this really, don't you? Otherwise you wouldn't have asked. wink

Does it matter? If you want it to be darker inside, tint the windows. Who cares what anyone else thinks?

Personally I think window tints look daft, but I'd still fit them if I thought they'd improve the car.

Had exactly what you are suggesting done on our E61 SE and as long as you go factory strength it improves the looks of the car IMHO.

Also offers excellent privacy/glare reduction for the kids in the back of the car and extra security when the wife has to carry work stuff in the boot that is too big for the load cover to cope with.

I'm sure plenty will disagree with me though. smile

Who cares what others think, it's your car! If you want them tinting go and do it, can't please everyone.

It depends on the car to be honest. I have an mSport 3 series without the tints and I wouldn't pay to get it done but it wouldn't put me off it it came with them. My brother has a black 5 series (none mSport) with aftermarket tints and it looks awful. I don't know if it's because of the silver plastic chrome look window surround or if it's his aftermarket 20 inch wheels but the thing is referred to as the pimp wagon around town.

As an aside, to those who say man up, who cares what other people think... If you were offered a lend of a really nice car for the day and it was bright pink, would you still take it? Not meant to offend, just a hyperthetical question. I wouldn't but then I'm not afraid to say I do care what other people think sometimes.

if i can suffer driving a gold mk2 cavalier sri with a smile on my face, then i can imagine the pain of you worrying if somebody thinks your a chav because you have tinted windows, would be no cause for concern !
just enjoy what you like and let the rest wag there chins in disgrace !

Irrevocably Chav I'm afraid - I live in Essex so unfortunately know rather more than I'd care to about the various manifeststions of Chavness.

Still if that's what you want then why not? smile

"Car is very dark blue with beige interior" To help you decide, a picture of my Golf V with VW factory tints, and... no, the fat, ugly man behind the car is NOT me :-) I don't consider tints to be chavy if they're done properly, if you like the look, do it.

That is a very similare colour to my car inside and out and I think that looks great.

Think I might do this.

If it looks rubbish, I can always pull the tint off.

Because of the current regulations where you can't tint the front side windows ( at least not as much as the backs ) I think ALL tints look stupid.....especially Impreza estates smile

I've just bought a Range Rover (dark blue with cream interior) and the windows are tinted. I'm 50/50 on whether I'll get them removed. A mate of mine told me I'll look like an Eastern European gangster smile

I always thought B-Pillar back looks a bit odd - but now I have an E39 Sport Touring with them and it looks fine imo - they are immeasurably useful with a wee bairn in the back.

Go for it.

I don't think they are chav really. A mate of mine has a black Fiesta ST with tinted real windows and I think they look quite smart.

Also have the added benefit of preventing people from seeing what you've got in the back of the car!

Not only is it chav, it makes your car look like a van...

Depends principally on whether your main motivation is not to be seen skinning up in the back.

Not at all. But this is PH where everything that's remotely popular is chav, be it cars or otherwise. So probably, yes.
