What pre-1980s "classic" would you most like to own?
Discussion
Traditionally, I have favoured cars from the 1980s and early 1990s, as they do quite a good job of combining the ease-of-use and reliability or modern cars and the fun of older cars. However, I have never owned a "proper" classic, which I would regard to be anything pre-1980 that is worth preserving.
There are many "obvious" classics that I will never be able to afford such as numerous Alfas, Lancias, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, BMWs, Mercs, 911s, E-Types, Cobras and a '68 Mustang fastback!
However, I watched a TV programme at the weekend where Rupert Penry-Jones was ragging a Triumph Stag down some B-roads and the lure of a fairly practical, V8, 4-seater convertible that I could enjoy with the whole family is quite appealing, although I believe they are a bit notorious for overheating! Looking at a few websites, they are actually much more affordable than I first thought as well, so that would probably be my choice.
However, if I was feeling a bit more selfish and left the wife and kids at home, I might be tempted by a TR6. I've always fancied one and it seems to somehow manage to be more manly than any modern 2-seater roadster bar a Morgan or TVR!

I'll try and keep it fairly sensible and exclude stuff like 250GTO / 275GTB/4 NART Spyder / Cobra 427 and such (despite them occupying prominent positions in my ultimate garage), so I'm thinking comfortable but brisk enough for most occasions that don't have a faint whiff of track of them.

But I think the S2 may just edge it.
