Checked today, and it's on the 'min' level on the stick.

Just get a cheap bottle of 10w/40 and bang it in, or should i be looking for a different grade?

I'm tempted to suggest Specsavers, however, why not cast your eyes to the top of the forum and use a pinned thread, or RTFM.

I don't think he's hating you, it's just that on a car enthusiasts' website, we generally expect people to be a bit more clued up about basic car maintenance. Reading the manual would be my first port of call, but I suppose I'm just weird like that.

So glad I saw this thread. I have just been out into the darkness to check my fluids and realised that my S-Type has no windscreen washer fluid in it.

What should I do???? Help!!

FFS - do people really need help to undo the '710' cap and put some fekkin' oil in the engine...?

Edit: Good user name, OP...

Nope, just pointing out to you as how to use this wonderful resource that is the Internet.
Let me assist you some more, go to www.opieoils.co.uk and there they are good enough to provide a lookup system to find the recommended oil grade and type for your car.
That oil you can then go buy anywhere that takes your fancy.

Isn't it 5 30 w in a mondeo?

But if you stick a litre of Mazola in it, it's unlikely to blow up!,

I ran a 3.0 XType for about 5 years and it has almost the same engine as the ST220. (Same block, different top end and a few more horses)

Always used 5W-30 Magnatec. I bet you need the same stuff. Of course, you could look in the handbook. wink

I'm going to have to plug it into the computer, cost ya 70 quid.

I can sort that out, that'll be another 120 quid. We'll round it to 200 all-in, mate's rates.

You don't know what RON rating your car requires do you?, go on admit it.

RON - rating, is that the petrol-rating?

I think its 95 for unleaded and 98 for leaded but not sure. Hardened valve seats means unleaded can be used.

Capri?, nah mate, old school 100 octane needed. Racing fuel these days, costly, so better scrap it. smile

Min oil level is perfectly safe, it's below that which is a problem.

Go with 5W30 and it will be fine.

Not in the ST220 (Or any Duratec 25/30 V6). The Duratec will start to wear out the top end when it reaches the min level on the dipstick. Common issue with them engines.

I managed to buy my old ST220 for 4 and a half grand below market value (05 facelift, performance blue, 45k miles and FSH) because the previous owner noticed it was on the minimum level before going to Cornwall, but proceeded to drive the 350 miles there after deciding he was short on time and will buy some oil when getting to Cornwall. Sure enough, he noticed a knock develop in the engine at certain RPM, and then after topping up the oil, the engine dies on him a week later.

So I buy it for 3 grand, fit the cylinder heads from my Duratec 30 in my Mk1 Saloon, and also fitted the S/S full exhaust system and ST200 air intake manifold/TB and then got it remapped. A week after buying her, I had a healthy running, super mint (tiny scuff on the bonnet edge from me) ST220 that was knocking on the door of 250hp after the exhaust and ST200 add-ons etc. I loved that car, and ended up making a hefty profit on it too.
