Hi all,

In a couple of weeks we will be trailering my dad's kit car (www.johnskitcar.com if you're interested) to a garage to have the suspension, tracking, and engine set up.

It's currently in a build state, so not registered, not IVA passed yet.

When it's on the back of the trailer (connected to a 4x4 by towbar - so not intrinsic like a low loader), is it covered under insurance of the towing vehicle, or should we seek specific insurance for the journey? If the latter,...where?!

Thanks!

Indeed - if all 4 wheels are off the ground then legally we're fine, but the car's had decent investment in it now (it's near completion) and so the worry is if there's an accident then all that money's down the drain.

I'd have a look at competition car insurance - they'll cover just about anything, and will have a vague idea of the value.

The people I'd recommend are REIS

Well get it insured via a kitcar insurance company for offroad insurance

The trailer insurance will be 3rd party only

As a generaL rule, most car policies covere the trailer and contents as third party only. Their are some exceptions though. I very much doubt there will be any cover for damage to the car on the trailer, unless you have taken out separate insurance.
