Bought a 106 1.5d for a cheap shed, it's got a tow bar and I'm looking at fitting a roof rack.. It'll be used for carrying the kayaks and get generally abused. Just sorting a few things out on it now and was wondering what do you all keep on the back of your cars, tools, jump leads etc? Be interesting to see how much stuff some people keep compared to others...

I keep oil, water and a few rudamentary tools (poundland collection of pliers, adjustable wrench etc) in it for short trips. Longer trips it gets a bit silly. Always make sure you've got some Torx bits/keys though, there's always that last one when something goes wrong!

Nothing - tools are heavy. smile

Actually, I do keep a set of jump leads and an OBD reader in the boot, largely for use on other people's cars. Plus the sockets for the wheel nuts.

For an old 106 I would recommend a Full tool kit, a spare rear axle, spare wiring loom, couple of head gaskets, a rack full of driveshafts and a large rock on a string that you can throw out of the window to slow it down (since they were apparently delivered from the factory without a functional braking system if the one I've driven was anything to go by).

Can of petrol , 2L oil , 1L ATF , screen wash concentrate , water
Lamp kit
Spare dizzy cap & rotor
Set of V belts

Toolkit with spanners and the like.
Duct tape.
Radweld.
Oil.
Water.
EU breakdown kit with all the bks they require you to have.

Then copious amounts of chocolate, and a couple of torches and warm clothings.

People laugh, but I was quite grateful for that lot when a coolant pipe started leaking in the lake district.

Chocolate is an everyday neccestity anyway.

Phone.

The only times I've broken down it's not been anything that I'd have had the parts / tools for.

Battery died
Blown hose (3" so a bit of tape wouldn't fix it)
Fuel pump relay
